Leveling My Life

As some of you may know, last Friday was my 25th birthday. It's official. I'm old.

And while being old definitely comes with it's downsides, it certainly has it's advantages:

  • Lower rates on my car insurance premium
  • Not being called "kid" by so many people
  • Having a say in what goes on in my life
  • Looking forward to being an uncle
  • Being married to a wonderful, beautiful woman

Now, I'm usually not one for contemplating 42 (the answer to life, the universe, and everything), but this past year has been grand and unusual. In the last year I: joined a rebellion, lost 40 pounds, did a pull-up, started a new job (well...roughly a year ago), bought a ring, got engaged, got married, visited another country for the first time, moved houses, became an uncle, found out I'm going to be another uncle, participated in my first business plan competition, wrote a freaking business plan, read a book from start to finish (which I haven't done since high school), went to a design conference, launched a project that a few people are actually using, started actively using Twitter to keep up with the world around me, and started actively trying to post useful information on my blog. It's been a fun and crazy year.

Looking back at what I've done, I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do next. Steve Kamb (from NerdFitness) decided to post an epic quest on his site of all of the things he wants to do and which things he's accomplished. Every time he accomplishes one of his goals, he gives himself 20% experience towards the next level of his life. I LOVE this idea, and in fact, it is very similar to the business plan I created for the competition I mentioned above. Now, being the computer scientist and general nerd that I am, I wanted to create a system that would allow people to keep track of their goals and level their lives.

Well, I've decided to take @ManVsDebt's advice and set a launch date for this project/product! So get ready, because on December 15th, 2010, we're gonna start leveling our lives!

I'm really excited because I know this will inspire and encourage people to do things that they normally wouldn't do. I want people to rebel against the societal norms and to take charge of their life. I want people to stand up and lead those around them. I want to see people doing crazy things that they never would have dreamed of, and most importantly, I want to do those things myself!

What is life if we don't live it? Why are we here if not to DO something with our lives?

So let's band together and do something. Join the rebellion, become a minimalist, or start a movement of your own. But whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability, and share it with the world.

What do you want to do next year? How will you level your life? Leave a comment below.
